"The Problem with Dating Shapeshifters" first appeared in The Trouble with Heroes, edited by Denise Little & Martin H. Greenberg, DAW, November 2009. Zeus was kind of a bastard to his girlfriends. Io was no exception. He turned her into a cow. She had subsequent adventures....

"The Curse Tablet" first appeared in Ages of Wonder, edited by Rob St. Martin, Julie Czerneda, and Martin H. Greenberg, DAW, March 2009. Romans used curse tablets to seek retribution against people who had harmed them, or to try to sway the outcomes of racing or other sports. This is the story of one curse tablet.

"Hunger" first appeared in Warrior Princesses, edited by Elizabeth Ann Scarborough & Martin H. Greenberg, DAW, May, 1998. Adapted from one of Ovid's Metamorphoses, this is the tale of Mestra, whose father was cursed with unending hunger.

"Whatever Was Forgotten" first appeared in Pharaoh Fantastic, edited by Martin H. Greenberg & Brittiany A. Koren, DAW, December 2002. Ancient Egyptians had plans for their immortal futures. Tomb robbers and archaeologists messed up these plans.

"The Listeners" first appeared in The Coyote Road, edited by Ellen Datlow and Terri Windling, Viking, 2007. In Ancient Greece, wives spent most of their lives out of sight in the upper stories, and slaves had even less agency. Slave Nyssa struggles against her fate.
