Annie's Wild Ride

(1998)
A novel by

Air Force pilot Anne Gassbeck and her daughter, Amelia, are flying home from a skiing vacation when their Cessna 152 crashes in the mountains. Though badly injured, Anne desperately tries to keep Amelia awake, for though the weather conditions are daunting and the crash site remote, Anne knows that her ex-husband, Paul, will find them. Paul and Anne Gassbeck have been fiercely competitive since flight school and although their marriage ended, they are still connected. As Paul fights to reach Anne and Amelia in time to save them, he faces the fact that he has always loved his Annie, and he always will. The stresses and strains of their skyrocketing careers in the air force, and their competitive spirits--coupled with his own inability to express emotion--drove them apart. Paul vows to reclaim his Annie--if he can only first keep her alive and well. Intense and complicated, this hero and heroine are fascinating to watch as they struggle to find a way to compromise, and a way to mesh their lives without destroying each other. --Lois Faye Dyer
