Lee, who works in our company, acts more like a boss- most irritating, arrogant, bossy employee I know till date.
But he can’t boss me around because there is only one boss here, and that’s me.
Left on my own to run my family’s nomadic van company, I discovered that the lessons I learned growing up as a debutante did little to prepare me for the challenge of keeping my parents’ company alive. My nemesis has an attitude of ownership that excludes anything I might have to say about it.
And this man, Lee, resents my every move. I have to get rid of this arrogant engineer, who thinks only he knows how to design best nomadic vans. He is in my way and costing me more than he is worth.
He is, however, the very type of man I need by my side as I made the journey I thought would give me the insight to fix all that is wrong with my company. I know he wants me, too because every time he is near me, he flung those shoulders forward, ready to do combat with my executive responsibilities, yet wanting me to give him a true submissive’s surrender.
I wish he didn’t have his male effect on me—that direct stare that made a woman in me quiver with anger and longing at the same time. I don’t need a man—nor a pain in my ass.
It is hard enough to stay ahead of the competition without hiring a man who believes himself to be my only option and his arrogance fights me at every turn when I assert my executive decisions. Now either he brings his ego down and becomes an obedient employee or he just leaves my company.
But what do you expect? He can leave the company but not his ego so he is just fired in the middle of our journey and trust me it gave a lot of peace and sense of accomplishment to my mind.
Before I could enjoy this relief and peace to the fullest, I get to know that we don’t have any replacement… Why on the earth I didn’t know that earlier?
If I take my words back and apologize to him, his ego will not reach the sky but it will reach beyond sky. Can you imagine?
Is there room for compromise when there is only room for one boss? If yes, how these two are going to survive while they have to travel and sleep in same van for many more nights?
