The Fortnightly Book Club Murders

(2024)
(The third book in the Titan McCannigan Mystery series)
A novel by

Titan McCannigan, beach bum, burger chef, and private investigator is in no condition to undertake a murder investigation.

Especially when no one but his clients – well-heeled women in a tony Yamassee Beach book club – believe anything villainous is afoot.

Law enforcement and the medical examiner smugly assert that there are innocent explanations for the death of a club member after the meeting.

There were no marks on her body. No sign of a struggle. No sign of anything out of the ordinary.

Except the woman’s shoe.

It’s missing.

Nobody has been able to find it, and there’s no logical reason it should have disappeared.

Titan has his own problems. A recent out-of-town visit to see his ex-wife and daughter – both of whom he adores – started well but deteriorated quickly. When he returned home, his many friends ended up babysitting him until he could end his pity party and pull his life back together.

Now the former naval officer is on the case, and everyone who knows him hopes it will be enough to lift him out of his funk.

Rich Sawyer, an old shipmate from his navy days, has computer hacker skills that may help. Rich's girlfriend, Queen Tangerine, brings her unique gifts into the mix.

There are divers, treasure hunters, medical examiners, deputies, and a host of unusual players with suspicious motives.

As always there is Banca, Titan’s faithful – and big-boned – dachshund to console him through the rough patches. As long as there is no food or woman to divert his attention.

The killer – or killers – may be people Titan knows. And knows well. It might make his investigation much more difficult.

But Titan remembers what Agatha Christie's Hercule Poirot once observed: “Every murderer is probably somebody’s old friend. You cannot mix up sentiment and reason.”

The Fortnightly Book Club Murders is the third book in the Titan McCannigan cozy mystery series. It can also be read as a standalone.
