A Craving for Carvings is a short story in the Century Cottage Cozy Mysteries series. Set a couple of weeks after A Timeless Celebration ends, find out what happens when Lois settles down for a well-deserved rest.

A delicious festival, a disturbing development, a daring plan. When a house is burgled on the street where Lois Stone lives, it's too close for comfort. She can't just sit back and wait for the police to catch the crook.

Middle-aged widow Lois moved from bustling Toronto to tranquil Fenwater to get away from the dangers of the city. Soon after she arrived in the small town, she and her best friend Marge spent a frantic week searching for a missing artifact from the Titanic, so she hasn't had time yet to settle into her new life. Now she intends to spend some quality time with a book on her veranda. But Marge has other ideas and entices her to the Fenwater Flavours Festival where she is tempted by the huge array of mouth watering sweet treats. And she hears the shocking news that one of her neighbours has been attacked and his valuable Indian artwork stolen. And his Indian carving isn't the only one that is missing. So, despite her promise to her friend, Bruce, that she won't take risks and will leave investigating to the police in future, Lois devises a plan to catch the crook.

And so begins several days of waiting in the dark, apple spiced rum cake, neighbours becoming friends, crafty and cultured crooks, calico cats, shifty shoppers in the old market building, and a spirited spook that wants to help, set against the backdrop of century houses on leafy residential streets, the scents of cinnamon and sugar, shady spots on sun dappled lawns, and the hum of happy festival visitors.

A tale for fans of Cindy Bell, Leighann Dobbs, Dianne Harman and Kathi Daley.
