Ivo Andrić was a Yugoslav novelist, short story writer, and the 1961 winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature from Bosnia and Herzegovina. His novels, e.g. The Bridge on the Drina and Bosnian Chronicle dealt with life in his native Bosnia under the Ottoman Empire.
