Yngvar Hakonsson and his Wolves are renowned as King Hakon the Good's chosen warriors. They go where no other can go, achieve what no other can dare, and carry the king's word to the edges of his realm. No enemy stands long against their swords.
After bringing a wayward jarl to heel, Yngvar is summoned to King Hakon's side. The young king is burdened with evil news from abroad. He is snared in the obligations of kingship, and trusts no one more than Yngvar to resolve the problems on his behalf.
Yngvar is sent to distant Ireland. In return for his service he is promised gold and land - the ancestral lands of his grandfather, Ulfrik Ormsson.
The Wolves set sail on their grave mission. But if the gods see them at all, it is to curse and mock them at every turn. Disaster and hardship steer them into danger. They are forced to navigate a gauntlet of enemies, both new and old.
