The Case of the Black Pearl

(2014)
(The first book in the Cannes Cozy Mystery series)
A novel by

Patrick Courvoisier, a former British intelligence officer, has left his troubled past behind and now lives on a houseboat, The Three Sisters, with his French Bulldog Oscar, in the Old Port of Cannes.
Known as Le Limier, or The Fixer, locals rely on Patrick to solve the problems they don’t want to go to the Police National about.
As the Cannes Film Festival gets into full swing, the resort town is overrun with Hollywood types and everyone is abuzz about actress Angele Valette’s new movie The Black Pearl—funded by Russian oligarch Vasily Chapayev, owner of the famous pearl after which it’s named.
When Angele disappears from the film’s launch party on Vasily’s yacht, while wearing the priceless pearl, Camille Ager, claiming to be Angele’s half sister, hires Le Limier (and Oscar) to find Angele before a vengeful Chapayev does.
