1998 British Fantasy Award for Best Anthology/Collection (nominee)
What were King Arthur's knights really like? The superb stories in this collection explore their lives, discover who they were and what drove them on their quests, describe what pain and anguish they fought to conquer. There are many stories, specially written for the collection, together with rare classic reprints, a foreword by Vera Chapman, an afterword with Marion Zimmer Bradley and Parke Godwin, and an introduction by Mike Ashley on the history and lore of the distant world of King Arthur and his Round Table. Although the Knights here may number less than the 1600 that King Arthur is traditionally said to have asked that the Round Table seat, this collection contains nearly 200,000 words from masters of historical fantasy, and follow Chronicles of Pendragon, Camelot, Merlin and the Holy Grail in the same series.
