Carenza Pearce, eighteen, leaves the cottage where she was born to travel to Fistral Castle. She takes with her a letter of introduction from her late grandmother, but the owners of the castle turn her away angrily. Alone in the world and penniless, Carenza is talked into a marriage of convenience, but she soon discovers that much mystery surrounds the man she has married.
