Bernadette and Nancy are on holiday in Northern Ireland in 1982 when they discover that their family are involved with the IRA. There are many places that they are forbidden to go by their Aunt Agatha and Uncle Donn and Agatha, and things they are forbidden to talk about by their mother. So many things to be forbidden; they pretty much ignore all of them. Only Tommy really frightens them. Things are manageable until one day their absent uncle, Ryan, reappears to the horror of his siblings. Tommy arrives to deal with the situation and, soon after, Bernie sees Ryan's body on the kitchen floor, wrapped in a blanket.
