When the aged outlaw Einer, aka Joe Brown, catches a boy trying to steal his horse, he threatens to shoot him. But then he takes pity on the boy and offers him shelter, seeing in the wild youth a reflection of his younger self. That vision spurs Einer to hatch a plan to steal a herd of Mexican horses with the boy. If successful, each can get what he most wants. For the boy it is a prostitute with whom he is in love. For the old outlaw, it is finding the woman he has loved for more than forty years. Neither knows that on the boy's trail is a dogged Texas Ranger who suspects the boy of grave wrongdoing and will track him to the ends of the earth.
