Grieving for her father, Isadora Alvescot faced the prospect of losing her home to Viscount Roborough, a distant family connection who had become her fathers heir. The most she and her mother, plus assorted dependants, could hope for was to be allowed to continue to live at Pusay, even though money would be short. But the Viscount who arrived was the son, Titus, and he had some hard decisions to make, whatever he might feel about Isadora. Her madcap scheme to save the family by becoming an actress, and so avoid any obligation to Titus despite being so drawn to him was surely the answer!
