A Shot From the Blue
(2024)(The first book in the Marshcombe House Victorian Mystery series)
A novel by EM Bolton
Wealthy eccentric and wildfowl collector Victor Goldhammer is found fatally wounded by a gun shot in the study of his palatial Cotswolds home. With the house full of guests any one of them with a thoroughly good reason to want Victor dead there is no shortage of suspects. The only problem is, none of them were present when he was shot and the killing appears to have happened in a room that was locked tight from the inside.
Among the guests are Ottilie, the stern and formidable widow of Englands finest detective, Sir Jeremiah Marshcombe, together with her new, and rather reluctant, Ladys Companion, Cora Lockwood. While they may not always see eye to eye, both women have one thing in common a fierce determination to prove they can stand on their own two feet; and this might be just the chance they have been looking for.
A cunning killer seems to have pulled off the perfect murder, but they may just have met their match in Lady Marshcombe and Cora if they can both just get through the investigation without coming to blows.
A Victorian traditional murder mystery, full of intrigue, humour, strong characters, twists, turns and ducks.
Genre: Cozy Mystery
