Fredrick is a successful rancher who always has things go his way and seems to win at anything he tries, needs to get married. Nobody knows it but he secretly courted a woman in the next town who then broke his heart - his only failure. He has no interest in love anymore and is only getting married because his sister is pressuring him about starting a family and he’s tired of it. Sort of to spite them, he puts an ad for a mail order bride into a newspaper and finds the heroine that way.

Eliza is an uptight spinster who is from a rich family and she has been doing philanthropic work for most of her life. Then her family’s fortune is ruined by a series of shipwrecks and she has no choice but to become a mail order bride.

Neither of them wants to get married and they certainly don’t want to marry each other. And yet underneath it they are attracted to each other and end up falling in love.

The Fredrick’s brother-in-law is a money grubbing store owner, who is willing to cut corners whenever it seems he could make a profit. The Fredrick and Eliza are on the church building committee and they need to stop him from ruining the church, even though there’s a lot of money involved and he is threatening their very lives.
