Author Herbert Burkholz is best known for his "Sensitives" trilogy -- about a mind-reading troupe of intelligence operatives trained by the CIA -- and his literary novels "Sister Bear," "Spanish Soldier" and "Writer-in-Residence."
A native New Yorker, Burkholz lived in Spain, Italy, Greece, and Mexico. He was a visiting lecturer at Yale University and Writer-in-Residence at the College of William and Mary in Virginia.
Herbert died of lung cancer April 30 2006 at Washington County Hospital in Hagerstown, Md.
Survivors include two sons from his first marriage, Matthew Burkholz of Chatham, N.Y., and Howard Burkholz of Sunrise, Fla.; and one granddaughter.
