When Emma Hanson promises a dying single mother that she will take care of her child, the town of Roswell takes sides. Most of the men say Emma can't manage - after all, she has a restaurant to run. But the townswomen have rallied to her cause, helping out as best they can.
However, when the underhanded councilman Douglas Harper plots to take Mandy away, and even Deputy Matthew Johnson - the man Emma thought might stand by her side - seems to agree with the men, Emma decides to take the advice of one of the women in town and places an ad in the papers for a mail-order husband. After all, Harper did say if she were married, Mandy's custody wouldn't be an issue.
Can Emma trust God to bring her the right man? Can she learn to deny her heart in order to make good on her promise.
