Edward (Eddie) Bairstow served as a conscript in France during the Great War. Later, after going into 'business', he liberated his creativity by writing the story of his life, which he bequeathed to his daughters, Juliet and Alison. At the end of the twentieth century and long after his death, whilst reading their father's intimate tale, his daughters discover a secret of his youth: a passionate, consuming love for a girl called Rhoda Moore, from which dramatic and unforeseen consequences would stem for his descendants.
