Ever agreed to have a makeover, then met the love of your life? Just me?
Lucy Scott
It's always been comfort over fashion for me. But when my boss dangles a carrot in the shape of my very own column, I will do whatever she wants. Even if it means I have to swap my stretchy leggings and Uggs for a tight dress and pair of stilettos.
She asks me to do a makeover photoshoot for the magazine I work for.
It shouldn't be so hard.
The night before the shoot, I am saved from an awkward situation by some hot businessman who takes pity on me.
Pity. Not exactly the romantic meet-cute that one might hope for.
But after the shoot, I get on the subway looking like Malibu Barbie, and guess who I stumble into? The same guy!
Only, he doesn't recognize me at all.
I'd be lying if I said I'm not hurt by that.
Then my boss moves the goal post. I can have my column so long as the first article is on her topic: How to Get a Guy to Fall in Love.
I hate the idea. It's so cheap, so manipulative.
Basically, my boss wants me to make a guy fall for me using tricks from the internet.
What kind of guy deserves that?
Then I think back to the shallow guy who only wanted to date me when I had hair extensions, several layers of makeup, and a revealing dress to show off the goods. The guy who didn't give me a second glance when I was my normal, comfortable self. Now, suddenly I don't think the article is such a bad idea.
Now, with the help of my sisters–who know a whole lot more about guys and dating than I do–I'm on a mission to get Mr. Businessman to fall head over heels for me.
The Makeover Surprise is a sweet romantic comedy with a neurodiverse heroine. This slow-burn romance is filled with laugh-out-loud humor, heart-warming side characters and downright swoon-worthy moments as Lucy finds true love.
Genre: Romance
