If Hetty Jessops had not been a sensible young girl, her head might have been turned by the attentions of handsome David Ogilby. But Hetty was a Yorkshire lass and knew what was what. There could be no future for the daughter of a groom and the son of the local landowner, even if they were once childhood sweethearts.
