A Trip to Signe

This is a sidebar story to the Pirates of the Badlands series. I always write down phrases, ideas, story lines, etc. as they occur to me. This story grew out of one of those ideas. I just didn't see a way to get it into a book so it is a standalone story with only some of the main characters, namely the crew of Predator and a few Royal Navy officers. Nothing happens in this story that advances any storylines in the main series, so you can skip this tale if you'd like. I promise not to hold it against you.

This story is about a trip aboard Predator to the planet Signe in the far-off Electra System. Alexis I, Queen of the Aurora Empire, is off to visit the Royal Navy's Electra Fleet but will also spend time with her consort, Raferty Hawkins, while sailing to Signe. The Queen, a former naval officer, becomes qualified as an officer of the deck aboard Predator and stands regular watches while en route to Signe.

An encounter with a Royal Navy destroyer leads to a security breach, but the pirates and Electra Fleet turn it to their advantage as they set up a plan for Predator's home journey. There is a space fight, so we got that going for us.
