From the author of the Sam Archer thriller series comes a gripping new story and character.

It’s almost the end of August 2021. Forty-eight hours before the deadline for Western forces to withdraw from Afghanistan and cede control of the country to the Taliban. On a dusty street in the capital city, a BBC World correspondent called Amira Adanti is stuck in traffic with her driver/bodyguard and cameraman. Their car is ambushed, the two men killed instantly, and after a foot chase, Amira is bundled into a van and driven away.

The Foreign Office in London inform the BBC that they’ve received a puzzling, single communication from the kidnappers: if Amira’s kidnap is reported through any channels, including social media, she will immediately be executed. Amira holds British/American dual citizenship, and both the UK and the US recognise how politically sensitive the situation is, with the potential of derailing the entire withdrawal process if the abduction of a Western reporter becomes public.

Across the Atlantic, Amira’s younger sister Sloane lives in Washington D.C. She worked for the CIA until two years ago, forced to leave after a serious incident, and has been on a downward spiral ever since.

But now, they need her help.

Not only does she have to deal with the devastating news about her sister, Sloane is asked to head halfway across the world into a burgeoning warzone to try and help find Amira and save her life.

And with the deadline looming, she’s quickly running out of time.
