It is a time when J. Edgar Hoover and Clyde Tolson are among the staunchest supporters of racing as regular patrons of American racetracks. In Lexington, Kentucky, an irate stable crew vindictively breeds a valuable stakes-winning broodmare to the wrong stallion. This initiates a series of mysterious incidents which shock the world of thoroughbred breeding and racing. Robert Harding, DVM, who has power over much of the industry buy little over himself, adds to the succession of unexplainable events, bringing turmoil to the springtime tranquility of Kentucky's Bluegrass country.
