The Long Rest

The laconic L.A. private investigator Mike Faraday is engaged by wily old lawyer Ingolstadt to deliver evidence which will clear Sternwood, a notorious racketeer, of a murder charge. Sternwood happens to be innocent on this occasion and Mike is only persuaded to take the case by Shelley Beeching, Ingolstadt's nubile assistant. But when Mike is almost chopped in a blazing car shoot-out in which four mobsters are killed, he suspects that Ingolstadt is setting him up...
