Sam Decker was still in Arizona when he got the phone call. Kyle Mundy was dead, murdered. Decker had worked with Mundy in his DEA days. But Kyle hadn't been alone when he was killed. His ten year old son Mark had been with him. Mark had seen the killers and Kyle had also left instruction that if anything happened to him that Sam Decker was to take care of the kid.
