A Web of Salvage

(1973)
A novel by

Winter gale force ten off the North African coast. 'Tactician', a battered old deep-sea salvage tug with a fruitless trip behind her and the UK bailiffs waiting ahead, claws her way through mountainous seas. Now only a miracle, and a pretty profitable miracle at that, can prevent this from becoming her final voyage - until, abruptly, her VHF radio picks up a desperate MAYDAY, MAYDAY, MAYDAY ...!

Somewhere, and not too far distant, a vessel is in distress. Jubilantly 'Tactician's' captain, Peter Ross, turns his ship in search of that other anonymous seaman's disaster which might just prove his own salvation. But on arriving at the casualty's reported position there is no wreck - or not yet, anyway ...? Only a scene to freeze the blood of any seafarer.

Fifty dead men later and it's far too late to turn back as Ross realises he's steered a course towards a nightmare infinitely more terrifying than the worst any Mediterranean storm can offer. Because 'Tactician' is already trapped in a horrific web ... a web of treachery, inexplicable events - and mass murder.

'One of the most exciting books I have ever read'. New Haven Register.
