The Long Road to Baghdad

Mesopotamia, 1914: Tension escalates in the Middle East. Misfit Lieutenant Harry Downe is sent to negotiate with renegade Bedouin Sheikh, Ibn Shalan, whose tribe attack desert patrols and cuts British oil pipelines. Harry bribes Shalan with British weapons. In return Shalan demands Harry marry his daughter Furja. Against all odds the marriage leads to a deep unexpected love, to the anger of Shalan and the disgust of Harry's fellow officers. But world war looms, a war that in Iraq will become known as the "sideshow war", a conflict that costs 97,000 British lives.
