The Barnes & Noble Review
"Mutants. Since the discovery of their existence, they have been regarded with fear, suspicion, and often hatred. Across the planet, the debate rages: Are mutants the next link in the evolutionary chain...or simply a new species of humanity fighting for their share of the world?"
Professor Charles Xavier's question is summarily ignored once a mutant breaks into the White House and tries to assassinate the president of the United States. The anti-mutant movement, already strong, grows more powerful as politicians push for new mutant reform laws that would severely restrict their freedoms. The president authorizes William Stryker, a top-secret army intelligence officer with a mysterious past, to take care of the mutant problem, using any means necessary. Stryker proceeds to attack Xavier's mansion and not only abducts several mutant children but also steals Xavier's Cerebro device -- which can identify mutants around the world. Stryker's plans are simple: Annihilate every mutant on the face of the earth.
To stop Stryker and his special-ops army, all mutants will have to join together before it's too late. When Magneto finally escapes from his plastic prison, will he decide to aid the X-Men or somehow twist the impending doomsday to his advantage?
Author Chris Claremont's X-Men 2 novelization is not only an action packed page-turner of the highest magnitude; it also succeeds in expanding the X-Men mythos by concentrating on the development of characters like Rogue, Dr. Jean Grey, Nightcrawler, and, specifically, Wolverine. Paul Goat Allen
Genre: Science Fiction
