She earned a bachelor's degree in English Literature and Language at the University of Havana. In 1979 she received the David Prize for Science Fiction for Los mundos que amo ("The Worlds I Love"), a collection of stories she authored between the ages of 15 and 19. This book was adapted for radio and served as inspiration for a short film, while a photonovel version sold more than 200,000 copies in less than two months.
