Bikini Atoll, South Pacific, 1954.
An aircraft carrier stationed near the Marshall Islands, witnesses the most powerful nuclear test in history, the terrifying "Castle Bravo" shot. But the test runs wildly out of control and creates the first true thermonuclear detonation. The carrier is hit by a blast that incinerates many of her crew. One young seaman, Ernie Walker, leaps overboard to escape the blast.
Present day
A fishing trawler picks up an old man floating amid a pocket of debris on an otherwise empty ocean. The crew find out the confused and afraid man's name: Ernie Walker. Ernie went under the water after the Castle Bravo blast, and when he came up again a moment later, more than half a century had passed him by. Taken to a local island, but fearing his government after what happened to the Bairoko's crew, Ernie flees before he can be questioned further.
Ethan Warner and Nicola Lopez learn of Ernie Walker's mysterious appearance in the Marshall Islands, but they quickly run foul of the CIA and North Korean agents working as sleeper cells in the USA, who are racing each other to find Ernie.
From the azure waters of the Pacific to the cold shores of the eastern seaboard, Ethan and Nicola find themselves on the hunt for a man who has defied time, but who wishes only to return to his own history. Caught up in the policies of countries willing to bend time to achieve their aims, Ethan, Nicola and Ernie head towards a final showdown on a remote Pacific island, where a device has been built that could literally change the face of human history: it will only work if Ernie is there, and every country on Earth wants to gain control of it...
