A novel by

James Hadley Chase is probably the best know synonym of Rene Lodge Brabazon Raymond, an English writer also known by other pen names, including James L. Docherty, Raymond Marshall, R. Raymond, and Ambrose Grant. He is one of the best known thriller writers of all time. He was influenced by American crime writes and writers of hardboiled pulp fiction, but he rarely visited the United States and the books are based on knowledge acquired by reading and using reference materials. He has written some 90 books, almost half of which have been made into movies.
Although the action in "Mallory" takes place in England, the story has its roots in France where, during World War II, Brian Mallory betrays to the Gestapo the leader of a small French resistance group. After the war, the group goes to London to chase down Mallory, one of their own in the war, and avenge their fallen leader, but Mallory proves a difficult match for them, and they decide to call for outside help. Enter Martin Corridon, a somewhat dishonest ex-British agent, ex-commando, who is more interested in accepting their money, and double-cross them. Corridon however is caught in a murder rap engineered by the group and has no choice but to go along and start looking for Mallory.
