A hit has been placed on Big Red Fortunato. Sidney Smyth, who was sent to lure one of Red's men, Nicky Bell, for the hit, is caught. Nicky brings Smyth before Red for questioning. Red listens to Smyth’s story, and then, amazingly, he offers Sidney a job in his organization. Smyth getting a pass comes with a caveat.
