It includes correspondence with contemporaries such as Saul Bellow, Malcolm Cowley, John Updike and Philip Roth, and addresses all periods and many aspects of Cheever's life, from his days as a young aspiring writer to the years following the success of "The Stories of John Cheever", his bisexuality and his successful battle with alcoholism.
