Jacob Arnikor, head of a great Charitable Trust, is visited by a man who introduces himself as "The Magpie". He threatens to expose Arnikor and his associates if the Trust is not run on straight lines.

Arnikor is nervous, but puts his faith in an ally Brianti, whom The Magpie had known in the War as a sadistic partisan. The pursuit of The Magpie by Brianti is relentless, he is equally relentless, when one by one, these people who know of the frauds are liquidated.

Only his cunning and daring, with the help of Scotland Yard saves him from the revenge planned for him, and brings the murderers to justice.
