Directors' Theatre

This study contains interviews with a wide variety of theatrical directors, ranging from Sir Peter Hall, the former director of the National Theatre, to Wendy Toye, Alan Ayckbourn, Adrian Noble, Philip Hedley and younger talents such as Nicholas Hytner and Deborah Warner. The volume has been revised and updated to include new developments in the theatre and information on how directors work, how they create a production and how they perceive the actors in their roles. There is also a section on the criticisms that are made of directors' theatre and designers' theatre. The book will be of interest not only to the general theatre-going public, but also to students of drama.
