Maunathyrr, proud, ancient, and wealthy, rules the southeast Mid Sea basin. Its independence from other kingdoms--and their laws--draws the hopeful of the whole world to it, from naive political agitators to refugees to criminals fleeing their pasts. It is a city of possibilty, where brains or a good sword might win you a life unthought of anywhere else.
Sirus "the Snake" Sedonus and his partner, the Vothan warrior maiden, Hedda are on the run, having plucked one ruby too many from a warlord's purse. They find what they think is safe haven in Maunathyrr. But short on cash, they soon have to take work, and theirs is the sort that alway entwines them in trouble. Hired to find a local noble's missing daughter, they're drawn into murderous, horrific plot revealing all that glitters is not gold in Maunathyrr. Freedom comes at a price. It's built on a bloody deal and sealed shaking hands with a monster.
