Faced with the forecloser on the family farm, Clayton Nolan has no choice but to collect from those to whom his father extended credit. Unfortunately, the year is 1932, and the entire country is hurting financially. His first stop is to the bank manager, who still owes for two barrels his deceased father made for him.

He encounters the banker’s daughter, Marguerite Daley, a strong-willed and industrious woman. After learning from her father that Clayton Nolan owes less than twenty dollars on his loan and that her father will be forced to take the farm, she devises a plan to help the Nolan family.

When Clayton delivers the barrel, an attraction to Marguerite and hers to him ignites in a kiss of passion. Discovered by Marguerite’s mother, she orders them to be married by July, a few short months away.

Can they develop a relationship? Will they be forced to marry? How can a man with no money and the responsibility of caring for his entire family afford a wife during the great depression? Or will they find love over a barrel?
