The first adventure in a brand new Western series from Matthew L. Cole!

David “King” Solomon is a former seminary student turned frontiersman, but he is an older man who dreams of the of the hectic days of speedier justice when men settled differences with smashing fists and smoking guns. When trouble strikes, he’s quite willing to strap on his .45 Colts and personally investigate matters. His old friend, trusted companion, and tobacco-chewing former nun, “Hail” Mary Schilling, is a mercantile store owner in the town they both live. King is a big man and likes to drink too much.

When drygulch bullets nearly kill his young friend, Wells Simpson, King Solomon goes about finding those responsible. Together he and Hail Mary set out to decoy some bushwhack lead and capture some men who were overdue frontier justice.

It was King Solomon’s and Hail Mary’s duty to investigate the illegal beaver-trapping in Ragged Hill—even if the bounty they were hunting was an old friend. Frank “Happy” Bowers, was named in confidential government reports as the chief suspect of said illegal activities.

Illegal trapping was afoot in Ragged Hill, and King Solomon’s old friend, Happy Bowers, was under suspicion, according to federal reports. And Solomon and Hail Mary knew the task ahead of them—not just the bounty—was to investigate: to bring old Happy Bowers to justice if he were guilty and protect him from injustice if he were not!
