When Sarah, a translator for the Foreign Office, complains to London police detective Sidney about a possible break-in (nothing stolen) and about her feeling that she is being followed (no evidence and no suspects), he is tempted to dismiss the case. The plot refuses to thicken until Kenyon is rewarded for his pains by a threat to his life more vicious than the murders and thefts that are his usual daily fare.
