A Match for Bret
(2023)(The ninth book in the Matchmaker - Agatha Returns series)
A novel by Patricia PacJac Carroll
They come from different worlds. Can they become a family?
Breton John Sinclair is the son of a wealthy English aristocrat. To leave behind some troubles, Bret’s father sent him to Montana to oversee a ranch they own. Five years later, Father sent word that he was sending a mail-order bride to Bret and expected him to marry Elizabeth Cornwallis to secure their line. At the end of his letter, Father left a note. Consider it a challenge and make me proud.
Elizabeth Cornwall, wasa Texas girl used to riding the wild plains, but when her mother dies, her English father sends her to relatives in Boston to be a servant girl and learn the ways of the well-to-do. You can take the girl out of Texas, but not Texas out of the girl. Tired of being a maid, Elizabeth, who can’t read or write, has a friend write a letter to the matchmaker, Agatha, who promised to find the perfect match.
Lifting her spectacles, the matchmaker Agatha studied her files of letters. “Cornwallis, where are you?” She shoved some letters aside and smiled. “Aha! There you are. Dear Elizabeth Cornwall. I am sending you your match. Bret Sinclair should make you a happy woman.” She smiled and stuffed the letter in the envelope and the return letter to The Duke of Sinclair in England, explaining she was sending Elizabeth Cornwallis to his son in Montana. Agatha sighed. “Another happy couple.”
