The Oxford dog walkers return in this captivating murder mystery.

Anna, Isadora and Tansy, dog walkers and part-time sleuths, go to a World War II-themed murder mystery weekend at the ramshackle Mortmead Hall. But the murder becomes all too real . . .

It’s the morning after the ball and the dog walkers are sitting down for breakfast when they hear a harrowing scream.

They discover a woman’s lifeless body floating in the fountain. Her red silk dress darkened almost to black.

She wasn’t meant to be there. She didn’t even have a ticket. Who was she?

As the dog walkers delve deeper, they find themselves caught up in a web of intrigue that puts them on the trail of a lost painting and a devastating wartime secret. A secret that will change Anna’s life and make her question everything she thought she knew about her family.

This richly woven murder mystery is perfect for fans of Richard Osman, Clare Chase, Jeanne M. Dams, Frances Evesham, Jane Adams, Simon Brett, Verity Bright, Lis Howell and Faith Martin.

THE DETECTIVES
Anna Hopkins survived. By day she is a part-time admin assistant at an Oxford college. By night she is obsessed with solving the sixteen-year-old murder of her entire family. Her rescue dog, Bonnie, is her companion and saviour.

Tansy Lavelle is a twenty-something, fawn-like beauty. Her warm, empathic and outgoing personality contrasts with Anna’s withdrawn nature. Tansy has her own painful secrets and is learning to distance herself from her past.

Isadora Salzman is a semi-retired medievalist in her late sixties. She’s currently writing (but never quite finishing!) the definitive book on Courtly Love. Isadora has lived a rich, full life.

THE SETTING
Oxford, the city of dreaming spires, is not just good for students, it’s perfect for dog walkers too. There are plenty of parks, gardens and meadows and the city is surrounded by rolling countryside.
