Biography of Emerson-- this is less a biography laced with quotations than a compilation of its subject's thoughts and words, with commentary. Appropriately so, in that Emerson had transcribed all his thoughts into words since his youth, corresponding, versifying, maintaining a journal, and preparing for the predictable pulpit-predictable because the ministry was a family legacy, though short-lived because Emerson did not find there his truth. --Kirkus
