The Deception of Consequences
(2017)(The ninth book in the Historical Mysteries Collection series)
A novel by Barbara Gaskell Denvil
Perfect for fans of CJ Sansom, SW Perry, SJ Parris and SG Maclean
An unsurpassed piece of writing. The story is so complex and gripping and so well written.
A time of excess and conspiracy.
Henry VIII's advisor is about to enter a web of death, love, and intrigue
England, 1534. Richard Wolfdon needs a challenge. Despite his high position as an adviser to King Henry VIII, he's become bored with the Tudor excesses. When he crosses paths with a desperate woman left in financial ruin, he takes on her challenge as his own. But he never expected to uncover a conspiracy that could threaten his fortune and his life
A bizarre triple murder.
Jemima Thripp doesn't have time to mourn her late father. Forced to fight her grasping cousin to preserve her family's estate, she's horrified to discover three mummified bodies hidden in the attic. When the king's adviser expresses an interest in solving the cold case, she's reluctant to accept the invitation to stay in his extravagant mansion. But surrounded by rich trappings and new temptations, can she keep her mind on the case and help solve the crime?
And a self-serving king
As Richard dives deeper into the case, he discovers intrigue and betrayal dating back decades. But summoned to court by his King, he must put the investigation on hold leaving Jemima to face a dangerous group of men alone.
With Jemima in the path of danger, Richard must summon every shred of cunning to save both his fortune and their lives. While Anne Boleyn is trying hard to save her own
What readers are saying:
If there's a mystery involved all the better. The cast of characters were so well written and believable.
I was up all night trying to finish it. There are several plots and subplots and you can't miss a thing. What started out as a simple murder investigation of three young women years before became so much more.
This is a wonderful book! It mixes history, mystery and romance into a wonderful tangle of a tale.
I thoroughly enjoyed this well written and creative take on the plot. It's fantastic and I highly recommend giving it a try.
