Once the incursion came and walled off entire segments of our world, things fell apart.
It’s been almost seventy years, and I’m one of the few people that can pass through the barriers into Abaddon to search through the abandoned detritus of our former society; a society locked away on a world far more dangerous than our own.
My odds of success remain low: nothing like family betrayals and attacks from the governor to keep me on my toes. Oh yeah, and the massive, burning demon of my nightmares.
No one ever said being a scrounger or a finder was easy. Or simple. Or safe. For too many of us, our retirement plan is a sudden and violent death.
