Kidnapping, Investor Fraud, and Murder
Connie Barrera is complaining to her husband, Paul, that she's burned out with running yacht charters in the Caribbean. When their guests stand them up for dinner one night, her boredom turns to anger.
A husband-and-wife research team, the guests are funded by a grant from a soon-to-go-public pharmaceutical company. They're using Diamantista II as a base while studying a lichen with medicinal properties. The lichen thrives in an extinct volcano on the island of Statia, where the guests have disappeared.
Connie and Paul report them as missing. While they're at the police station, someone steals the guests' computer and lab equipment from Diamantista II.
A day later, Paul is ashore when two men board the boat and attack Connie. They're looking for a portable disk drive that should have been in the case with the guests' computer.
Provoked by the thieves, Connie gives in to her anger. Then the real trouble begins.
