“What else can you tell me about that crate?” I finally asked through gritted teeth.

Marchant studied me as if thinking of saying something, but also as if he didn’t know exactly how to go about it. He shook his head. “You really do have quite the attitude, you know that? If your father wasn’t an admiral, I would’ve had you washed out long ago. It’s only because of him you are here.”

Yet another attempt to get under my skin that I was not going to let work.

“The crate. What is in it?”

“It is top-secret. It is of the utmost importance that it is protected at all costs.”

“What is inside?”

The door to the lift opened. Marchant just smiled as he walked out and opened the doors to the shuttle bay.

I followed him inside.

The security guards were dead, and the crate was open.
