The First Book in a New Series Set 73 Years After The Maze Runner
Seventy-three years after the events of THE DEATH CURE, when Thomas and other immunes were sent to an island to survive the Flare-triggered apocalypse, their descendants have thrived. Sadina, Isaac, and Jackie all learned about the unkind history of the Gladers from The Book of Newt and tall tales from Old Man Frypan, but when a rusty old boat shows up one day with a woman bearing dark news of the mainlandeverything changes. The group and their islander friends are forced to embark back to civilization where they find Cranks have evolved into a more violent, intelligent version of themselves. They are hunted by the Godhead, the Remnant Nation, and scientists with secret agendas. When they cross paths with an orphan named Minho from the Remnant Nation, the dangers become real and they don't know who they can trust. The islanders will have to survive long enough to figure out why they are being targeted, who is friend or foe, and what the Godhead has planned for the future of humanity.Early Reviews
A gripping read as we discover more about the Godhead and the Remnant Nation, and fear that the fate of the Gladers' descendants may mirror the suffering of their ancestors. James Dashner doesn't disappoint with dystopian settings, intriguing new characters and a chilling plot that keeps us wondering who can be trusted. We're left feeling desperate to find out what happens next...Vicky McDonald

James Dashner has transported his readers to a world they didnt think theyd see again. The use of multiple narrators provides teachers with the opportunity to create rigorous lessons on character development, authors choices, plot, and theme. With the rich descriptive language used by Dashner students are given a prime example of the power of word choice. THE MAZE CUTTER easily lends itself to whole group reads, literature circles, book clubs, and choice reads. Young adults and older adults will enjoy every page!

The Maze Cutter was a whirlwind of nostalgia mixed with fresh, sympathetic characters. The cleverly-paced tension was like a cold breath to the back of my neck with each turn of the page. Both those new and familiar to the series will not be disappointed, and I cannot wait to share this journey of a book with my students.
