Look Homeward Angel

Life for Angelique Boudrea has always been lovely and simple. She is content to live in her Nova Scotian fishing community; she is glad that she will soon have a new brother or sister; and most of all she is happy that she will soon be the wife of Joseph Landry, the man she loves more than all the world. But on a gray afternoon in October, Angelique's happiness is stolen when Redcoats deport the Frenchmen-including her father and Joseph-from her community. She and her mother are left to fend for themselves, facing danger and uncertainty. As tragedy after tragedy piles up in her life, Angelique feels as though her heart will break. How can she continue to hope when God seems to have abondoned her? How can she keep hatred from ruling her heart when she may never see her beloved Joseph again? Somehow, though, God works in even the darkest moments...
