Gr 5-7 In this spinoff from the cartoon series, M.O.M. (Multiple Operations Ma trix), the computer of Light, has been stolen by dark arch-rival D.A.D. (Diverse Activi ties Database), and it's up to Bhodi Li (Chris Jarvis when he is a normal Earthling) and the rest of the young Photon Guardians to rescue her. They do, of course, battling their way through legions of Bad Guys; in the process, Bhodi Li nearly destroys the universe, but hey, that's all in a day's work. Characters and situations are predictable and derivative, the plot repeatedly grinds to a halt for pointless digressions, and both the science and the politics are painfully sim plistic. Despite the cutesy names, you can't even read this as a satire; it's just too ear nest. John Peters, New York Public Library
Genre: Children's Fiction
