Wicked witches. Murder. Mystery.

Cackles, crimes, corpse crumbs—oh my! A ghoul’s plans for recruiting go awry when she encounters a necromancer.

Recruiting students for Lady of the Lake School for Girls is no easy job. Vega Bloodmire needs to supplement her income as a teacher in order to earn money to pay off debt—and to be able to afford new clothes. Unfortunately, Vega Bloodmire is thwarted by a rival recruiter from another school who beats her to the job. Vega loses another commission to Felix Thatch from Womby’s School for Wayward Witches.

After leaving her recruiting failure, Vega accidentally bumps into the hot detective she used to date—before he turned out to be someone else’s true love. Detective Izidro Medina has been called in because he is investigating a mysterious case of vandalism that might have a magical explanation.

But this is no ordinary magical incident. Forbidden magic is at work. Someone has caused the dead to rise, an ability that Vega has always dreamed of.

Detective Medina still has difficulty coming to terms with the rules of Witchkin and the Unseen Realm, and he thinks this is beyond their skills. As if hunting a pack of zombies that might actually be hunting them isn’t enough to worry about, Vega needs to convince Izidro that the incident wasn’t the teenager’s fault. This teenager needs to be trained in magic, not turned into the Witchkin Council, who will execute first and ask questions later.

Only if Vega finds the necromancer before the Witchkin Council does, will she be able to save a teenager from being accused of murder and forbidden magic. Can she save this student from accidentally hurting herself and others—while Vega refrains from eating any of the walking corpses and exposing her own ghoulish secrets?
